RULE §19.703

Social Services General Requirements

  (2) A facility of 120 beds or less must employ or contract with a qualified social worker (or in lieu thereof, a social worker who is licensed by the Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners, and who meets the requirements of subsection (b)(2) of this section) to provide social services a sufficient amount of time to meet the needs of the residents.

 Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners (TSBSWE)
  • renewal period is 24 months
  • 30 continuing education hours (3.0 ceu) are required each renewal period
    • Credit hours or Continuing Education Units (CEU) are training hours accredited through a college or university or through agencies and organizations authorized to grant credit hours (CEU). The Social Work Licensing Program does not directly grant credit hours (CEU) for training. Ten credit hours of training is equal to 1.0 CEU.
  • how to get CEUs: participate in institutes, seminars, workshops, conferences, independent study programs or college academic or continuing education courses that are related to and or enhance the practice of social work and are offered through approved providers. The program announcement should indicate whether it is approved for social work.
  • how to document: you will be provided with a report form on which to list your continuing education hours for your current renewal period. A random sample of renewal applications will be selected and those persons will be required to submit acceptable documentation of the continuing education listed on the continuing education report form such as copies of continuing education certificates.
